Rev. Dylan Valliere
God’s law is not sin; it is holy, righteous, and good.
Part of why God’s law is good is that it makes known to us our sin problem.
We have a sin problem, not merely a sins problem.
Sin produces sins. Our sin nature produces sinful thoughts, words, and behavior.
The law enables us to perceives sin as sin, to perceive some of our desires as illegitimate.
Not all desires should be pursued.
The law exposes my sin as rebellion against God, as the commitment to have my own way.
Sin misuses God’s good law to kill rather than bring life.
Sin lies.
“[Sin] offers hopelessness relieved by self-indulgence, or it offers hopefulness supported by self-righteousness.” (John Piper)
The good news of the person and work of Jesus Christ is the only solution to our sin problem.
