Children and Heirs

Rev. Dylan Valliere

Galatians 3:26-29
Galatians 4:1-7

Children of God

Not only are you a son of Abraham through faith in Jesus, you’re a son of God, too!

If you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ, not only has God adopted you as his child, but he has made you an heir to all that God has for his children in Christ.

No Christian is fatherless.

In Christ

A person must be baptized “into Christ.”

Baptism is an outward and public declaration that we are united with Jesus by faith.  It’s represents our being made spiritually clean and accepted by God because Jesus’ death counts as our death and Jesus’ resurrection life is now ours.

Christian, your identity is found in Jesus.

As children of God, we are brothers and sisters and our unity as siblings ought to transcend all of the things that normally divide people.

Heirs

Christians are children of Abraham, children of God, and heirs through God.  All because we are, by faith, in Christ.

Christians submitting to the Old Testament Law isn’t Gospel Graduate School—it’s more like a Ph.D going back to repeat kindergarten.

God’s willingness to put himself through the suffering and humiliation necessary for our salvation was for the purpose of making you and me children of God—it was to make us part of his family.

The promise God gave Abraham, which we inherit by faith, is ultimately most centrally about having God and having eternal life.  It’s about enjoying God forever.
